The home on 15th Street in the Silverton section of town was fully engulfed when responders arrived around 11 p.m., Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Saturday morning.

A man and three children escaped the blaze, but the intensity and scope of the blaze kept responders from getting to the victim, he said.

Her body was later discovered inside, the prosecutor said.

More than 60 area firefighters responded.

A Toms River police officer was taken to nearby Community Medical Center for treatment for smoke inhalation.

The victim’s name wasn’t being released until full notifications are made, Billhimer said.

Meanwhile an investigation was continuing, the prosecutor said.

“This is a sad day for everyone involved,” he said.
